A lot of agents put ads in magazines and say "refer clients to me" but they never tell you why. Should you refer your clients to them because they advertise and say pick me, pick me?

Should you just refer them because that agent is the one to advertise?

What would you want to know about another agent before you refer to them?

There are several things I would want to know:

  • I would want to know my client was going to be well taken care of and have a good experience. There is nothing worse than referring to someone and then having the client come back and tell you what a bad experience it was. That makes you look bad and reflects really poorly on you for referring to them.

  • I would want to know that I was going to be kept in the loop and know what was going on.

  • I wouldn't want to refer someone and have them travel to another city or state and then have to keep wondering what happened. Did my client like the agent I recommended? Did they end up buying or selling a house? Am I going to get my referral fee?

  • I would want to know that the other agent was experienced and knowledgeable. The more knowledge and experience the less chance for problems.

Bottom line is if I were going to refer to another agent, it is my reputation on the line when I make that referral. I want my client to say to me "Wow, what a great agent." I want my referral to have a professional Wow experience that leaves them feeling great and therefore reflects positively on me for making the referral.

So why should you refer to me if you client is moving the the Vancouver area? Why should you believe your client is going to have a good experience?
